There is quite a range of accommodation options- the soundtrack of the lions making themselves heard at night comes with a cost.

History of Serengeti National Park:

Established in 1951, the Serengeti is one of Africa’s oldest and most famous parks. The name Serengeti is derived from the Maasai word “Serengit,” which means “endless plains.” This large area covers about 14,750 square kilometers and is characterized by a wide variety of ecosystems and an increasing number of animals.

Originally, the Serengeti was a playground for local cultures to hunt. Yet, by the beginning of the twentieth century, the effects of hunting had already manifested themselves. Wildlife conservation was thus initiated to provide the animals with the necessary protection. British colonial authorities reserved a major part (38,000 km2) of space for animals in 1921. The history of the park is filled with several significant milestones:

  • 1959: The Serengeti Research Institute was founded. It is a major player in wildlife conservation.
  • 1961: The park was designated a UNESCO World Heritage Site. This designation highlights the site’s global significance.
  • 1981: The park was made bigger, which included the Ngorongoro Conservation Area, which together with the rest of the park, increased its ecological diversity.

Great Migration, which takes place every year for thousands of years, is the reason why the Serengeti is so famous. This annual event involves more than two million wildebeest, zebras, and gazelles moving in search of fresh grazing. The original explorers such as Dr. Bernhard Grzimek and his son Michael organized the great wildlife survey even before the wildlife co-management was established. As a result, their work drew international attention to the Serengeti and raised environmental health concerns.

The Serengeti today is still one of the most prosperous wildlife protection symbols. The conservation of the numerous species and habitats is the priority. Through the collaboration of tourism and conservation, the park’s recovery is sustained.

The never-ending circle of the Great Migration:

The great migration is simply an annual journey covering more than two million wildebeest, zebras, and gazelles across the Serengeti and Masai Mara ecosystems. During the migration, the wildebeest, zebras, and gazelles are looking for new feeding grounds and water, and thus huge herds of animals are formed, which in turn creates one of the most astonishing spectacles of nature.

During the days they follow a cycle that usually is as follows:

  • January to March: The southern Serengeti plains turn into a calving ground for numerous wildebeests, which are also the primary source of food for the lions and hyenas.
  • April to June: The herds make their way northwards to the Grumeti River. As they attempt to cross the river, they come up against an antagonist that consumes more flesh of wildebeest than any other in the world: the crocodile.
  • July to September: The wildebeests reach the Mara River. At this time they have to swim through the river which is infested with crocodiles and strong currents.
  • October to December: The route followed by the herds is towards the south, where they return to the plains of the Serengeti which had short grass, and then again a new cycle would begin as they prepare for the newborn calves in the next calving season.

Our safari will let you experience:

  • Admire the brave wildebeests: They don’t mind taking the risk of swimming through the dangerous parts of the river.
  • Look at predator-prey relationships: Observe how lions, cheetahs, and hyenas are hunting in real time.
  • Different kinds of landscapes: From the fertile plains next to rivers to the open plains where wildebeest and other wildlife cross.
  • Be proud of the amazing photo you took: Choose the best spots for wildlife images.

Beyond the Great Migration:

Although the majority of travelers list migration as the main reason for their visit to Serengeti National Park, it is quite important to look at this huge exhibit from another perspective. To begin with, we cannot force nature to act in a certain way. One of the most important things is to have realistic expectations for chances of finding a river crossing herds of elephants. A river crossing, for instance, oftentimes takes just a half-hour which means that one might easily miss it. Thus the park provides all-year pleasures and experiences that focus on various ecosystems and a variety of animals such as;

The Big Five

The concept of the “Big Five” actually pertains to the five most famous and sought-after animals in Africa, namely lions, elephants, buffaloes, leopards, and rhinos. Initially defined by big-game hunters, it is now the animal kingdom’s equivalent of luxury wildlife viewing. The big five comprise;

  • Majestic Lions: Be a part of the herd of lions that are enjoying their time under the sun or hunting in action.
  • Towering Elephants: These graceful creatures are seen by you as they meander through the savannah and the forests.
  • Massive Buffaloes: Look at buffaloes munching on grass or walking across the plain fields.
  • Elusive Leopards: Find leopards hanging out on tree branches or quietly pouncing on their prey.
  • Rare Rhinos: Catch these critically endangered animals which also symbolize conservation endeavors.

Grumeti River

Examine the marvels of the Grumeti River in the famous Serengeti National Park. The Grumeti River is a vital component of the Great Migration and it is one of the most stunning wildlife spectacles such as;

  • ImpalaSeNdutuflies require
  • Propositions are the zebra and the wildebeest which make up the herds over the bellows of the animals in the river.
  • Ownership of the crocodiles and lions rest, and the animals that are prey to them lie still in wait.
  • Actuality is given of the crocodiles, beavers, and swordfish which seem to be blocking the passage while

    • Encounter the Big Five: Lions, elephants, buffaloes, leopards, and rhinos are existent but they are not confined to a particular space.
    • Experience Predatory Dynamics: You will be able to see lions hunting and leopards resting in trees.
    • Enjoy Birdwatching: This is an exceptional place for birdwatching, as all the members of the order are present, and the total number of bird species reaches over 500 where one can also find ostriches and eagles.

    Moru Kopjes

    Granite rock outcroppings are found across the landscape, and the lands where granite rock formations exist have been punctuated by them, providing unique habitats for wildlife in the vast plains. They become the most powerful landmarks when we see the rocks being transformed over time by weathering and erosion. The kopjes are products of the weathering and erosion of the land and exhibit the characteristics of roundness and smoothness that are the same as the pieces of art that were carved by human hands. Here, the region dwellers, who are of various kinds and who have been acclimated to their environment, find their home. Thanks to their rocky surfaces, one is presented with great opportunities to see animals and do photography. The kopjes are:

    • Old granite outcrops, a small piece of a part of the earth that stands as high as it can, peeping out of the flat ground.
    • House special teenagers of the bush – wild animals – that turn the outcrops into shelter and vantage points.
    • Represent geological relics, and in them, the Earth bears its story through the layers formed over time.

    The Serengeti’s charm is not only limited to the show of the natural phenomenon of migration. It’s a unique place where you can experience different things in different seasons. Whether you’re a first-timer or a seasoned safari traveler, there’s always something new to uncover and marvel at.

    The Cradle of Humankind:

    • The plain of Serengeti is often cited as the cradle of humankind. This area, with its high density of antediluvian human and archaeological evidence, witnesses the bottleneck of humans. Apart from all that, the Olduvai Gorge in Serengeti is one of the main paleoanthropological sites in the world. Decipher the relevance of Olduvai Gorge:

      • Ancient Hominid Fossils: Discover early human ancestors, for example, Homo habilis.
      • Stone Tools: Discover the traditional tools that our ancestors used 1.8 million years ago.
      • Educational Insights: Get information from guides about the discoveries of different organisms by them and Louis and Mary Leakey.

    The place of Serengeti in the human past is outstanding. Shift the present-day beauty of the Savannah to the beauty of the past. The rocks that were found at Olduvai Gorge changed the whole understanding of human evolution in such a manner that it is considered revolutionary. This site aims to provide evidence of early humans evolving and adapting to their surroundings through hunting and making tools. Other remarkable sites are:

    • Laetoli Footprints: Track the ancient footprints of early humans, preserved in volcanic ash.
    • Shifting Landscapes: Understand how geological changes shaped human evolution.
